Rainn Wilson in fine comic groove as "Rocker"
NEW YORK (Hollywood Reporter) - The off-kilter comic rhythms of Rainn Wilson are exploited to excellent effect in "The Rocker," a derivative tilt satire that is far more enjoyable than one would have a right to await.
This tale of a middle-aged drummer getting a irregular chance at stardom overcomes its essential familiarity thanks to a frequently witty script, grounded direction (by Peter Cattaneo, of "Full Monty" fame) and an engaging turn by its star that proves him more than capable of carrying a comedy feature film.

Myra Forbes and Wallace Wolodarksy's screenplay includes legion sly comic touches -- somehow, the Vesuvius band members became British over the years -- and such supporting players as Jason Sudeikis (as a sleazy record exec), Jeff Garlin and Jane Lynch deliver playfulness turns.

Download festival headliners Kiss, who played the top spot at the festival last Friday (June 13), have declared that the record industry is "dead".
Bassist Gene Simmonds explained that his band were refusing to record new material until illegal downloading ceases, calling the act of downloading "uncivilised".
"The record industry is dead," the Daily Star reported the singer saying. "It's six feet underground and unfortunately the fans have done this.
"They've decided to download and file-share. There is no record industry around so we're going to wait until everybody settles down and becomes civilised. As soon as the record industry pops its head up we'll record new material."
Singer Paul Stanley went on to defend the band's policy of only playing old hits live. "With any classic band that hits the road, the last thing you want to hear is their new songs," he said. "Trends come, fashion comes. But we don't go away. We're like herpes."

Sopranos creator makes film debut
The creator of 'The Sopranos', David Chase, is to write, direct and produce his first feature film.
Chase has agreed a deal with Paramount Pictures for the drama.
Commenting, Brad Grey, Chairman and CEO of Paramount Pictures, said: "David is one of the great storytellers of our time, and his debut as a filmmaker is both highly anticipated and long overdue."
He continued: "In truth, David has been creating cinematic-quality filmed drama for more than a decade - spanning nine seasons and 86 episodes of 'The Sopranos.' Having worked with David as a producer [on 'The Sopranos'], I'm delighted to be with him again and to bring his unique vision to the big screen."

Justin Timberlake has revealed that pop queen Madonna ordered him to drop his trousers so that she could give him a B-12 injection.
Speaking at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony, where Madonna was honoured, the 27-year-old star said: "She proceeds to pull a Ziploc bag of B-12 syringes out [of her purse] and says, 'Drop 'em'."
"I don't know what you say to that, so I immediately dropped my pants," Timberlake said, referring to the incident as "one of the greatest days" of his life.
When Madonna later took to the stage, she said: "Everything he said is basically true, but I didn't say 'drop 'em,' I said, 'pull your pants down'. I like to be accurate because you know I am a control freak."

Hayden Panettiere - Panettiere Auctions Off Whale Watching Date
HEROES actress HAYDEN PANETTIERE has become the latest star to auction off a date - she'll take a fan whale watching in return for a hefty charity donation.
The actress will spend a day with the winning bidder and guests on the high seas in August (08).
The whale watchers will be joined by marine expert and conservationist Jeff Pantukoff.
The eBay.com auction, which runs from 20 to 30 May (08), will benefit The Whaleman Foundation, which is Panettiere's favourite charity.
Panettiere's deep love for sealife became clear last year (07) when she risked her life by joining protestors in the waters off the coast of Taiji, Japan and attempted to stop fishermen from killing dolphins.
Since then, she has further championed the cause by lending her name to the Save The Whales Again! campaign and heading to Washington D.C. to confront the Japanese, Icelandic and Norwegian embassies about their hunting practices.
The auction is a Save The Whales Again! venture.

A shortened version of the title track, which contained extended instrumental passages with loud guitars and The followup, Ball, showed greater musical kind and went amber, but it also marked the beginning of the band's go down. Braunn left hand the group and was replaced by guitarists Mike Pinera and Larry "Rhino" Reinhardt, but the group's success was for the most part all over.
